Mega Man Maverick Hunter X (Sniper)
Genre: Platform Shooter
Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom

Graphics
Mega Man Maverick Hunter X is a remake of the original SNES version of Megamax X, and like other classic remakes for the PSP, features completely redone visuals in full 3d. The style of the artwork has been carried over in the texture work, and all of your favorite characters from the SNES original are immediately recognizable. Nothing here really pushes the PSP, but it does manage to look much improved over the original game.

Sound
Outlandish characters need outlandish sounding voice actors, and this game delivers some quality, comic style voice overs, as well as some splendid, more serious acting for the protagonist. The sound track has been redone and is crystal clear, cd quality. Sound effects are mundane and perhaps a little disappointing.

Gameplay
As the original platform shooter, Mega Man has survived since the mid-80s, and is still going strong with this remake. Gameplay is mostly left-to-right jump and shoot action, but the levels do seem to be well thought out, and the ability to acquire and use new weapons and equipment adds depth. Simple in concept and well executed, once you get a handle on the gameplay engine you will be pleased, but not blown away.

Overall
This title combines classic Mega Man gameplay, for good or for bad, and adds in some Castlevania-esque item collection aspects. The game isn't very long, but it does feature a full-length anime episode, unlocked when you defeat the game. The game has excellent replay value, and you can also enjoy the single player mode as one of the baddies, Vile. In all, there are certainly better platformers for the PSP, but if you're a Mega Man fan, you would not want to miss this game.
